We know that relationship distress doesn't just live in your thoughts—it impacts your nervous system and your sense of daily safety. Whether you are building a foundation in the early stages of marriage or navigating deep-seated patterns after years of partnership, our collaborative approach meets you exactly where you are to help you:
At KC Counseling Group, our IFS-trained therapists offer a powerful, compassionate approach to healing known as parts-work. Developed by Dr. Richard Schwartz, Internal Family Systems (IFS) is an evidence-based model built on the understanding that our minds are naturally made up of different "parts"—like the inner critic, the people-pleaser, the perfectionist, or the part that carries deep hurt and anxiety.

We know that no part of you is inherently bad; each one is simply doing its best to protect you from pain, often using survival strategies that leave you feeling exhausted or conflicted. Our collaborative approach helps you safely get to know your inner system, moving you toward a place where you can:
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a psychotherapy that enables people to heal from the symptoms and emotional distress that are the result of disturbing life experiences. Repeated studies show that by using EMDR therapy people can experience the benefits of psychotherapy that once took years to make a difference. EMDR therapy shows that the mind can heal from psychological trauma much as the body recovers from physical trauma. EMDR therapy demonstrates that a similar sequence of events occurs with mental processes. The brain's information processing system naturally moves toward mental health. If the system is blocked or imbalanced by the impact of a disturbing event, the emotional wound festers and can cause intense suffering. Once the block is removed, healing resumes. Using the detailed protocols and procedures learned in EMDR therapy training sessions, clinicians help clients activate their natural healing processes. As a couples therapist can also be used. EMDR therapy uses bilateral stimulation to help your mind go to the places it needs to heal. If you interested in EMDR or EMDR combined with other therapies, please schedule consultation to learn more.
