Ever feel pulled in different directions?
Part of you wants one thing, another part fights it. IFS understands the mind as a system of parts, each carrying its own story and its own good intention.
- A harsh inner critic that never seems to let up.
- One part of you wants change while another quietly sabotages it.
- Perfectionism, people-pleasing, or numbing that runs on autopilot.
- Old pain resurfaces when you least expect it.
- You do not always feel like yourself, or in charge of your reactions.
None of these parts are the enemy. Each one is trying to protect you. IFS helps them relax, so the real you can lead.

“There are no bad parts. Every part has a positive intention, even if its behavior is counterproductive or destructive.”
Richard C. Schwartz, founder of Internal Family Systems
Getting to know your parts
IFS is an evidence-based approach that helps the different parts of you work together instead of pulling you apart. Research shows it eases anxiety and depression and the effects of trauma.
Meet your protectors with curiosity
Parts work. The parts that manage, control, or numb learn they no longer have to carry the weight alone.
Unburden the parts that hold pain
Healing exiles. The vulnerable, hurting parts you have kept hidden are gently brought into the light and released from their burdens.
Lead from your calm, core Self
Self-leadership. Beneath every part is a steady, compassionate Self. We help it take the lead in your life.
Reach what memory and the body hold

Common questions
What does ‘parts’ mean in IFS?
IFS sees the mind as made up of parts, like an inner family. Some parts protect you, such as an inner critic, a perfectionist, or a part that numbs out, and some carry old pain. None are bad. Therapy helps them work together so you feel more whole.
Do I have to relive painful memories?
No. IFS works at the pace your parts are comfortable with. We build trust with your protective parts first, so nothing moves faster than feels safe.
What does therapy cost, and do you take insurance?
Your first consultation is always free. After that, sessions are $120 with a fully licensed clinician or $60 with a clinician-in-training (couples and family are $150 or $75). We welcome FSA and HSA cards, and as an out-of-network provider we can give you documentation to seek possible reimbursement from your insurance. We do not accept Medicaid or Medicare, and financial assistance may be available, so please just ask.
Do you offer virtual sessions?
Yes. Care is available both in person and online throughout the greater Kansas City area.
How do I know which therapist is right for me?
That is exactly what the free consultation is for. We will help match you with the therapist who best fits your needs.
