When your body will not let you relax
Stress and trauma do not only live in your thoughts. They settle into the body and the nervous system, long after your mind has tried to move on.
- Your mind says you are safe, but your body stays on edge.
- Tension, tightness, or restlessness you cannot seem to release.
- You feel stuck in fight-or-flight, or shut down and numb.
- Anxiety shows up physically: racing heart, shallow breath, a knot in your stomach.
- Talk therapy has helped, but something in the body has not shifted.
Your body is not working against you. It has been protecting you. Somatic therapy helps it finally feel safe enough to let go.

“Trauma is a fact of life. It does not, however, have to be a life sentence.”
Peter A. Levine, founder of Somatic Experiencing
Healing that works from the body up
Somatic Experiencing is a body-oriented approach that resolves the stress, shock, and trauma stored in the nervous system. Rather than only retelling what happened, we work with what you feel in the present, gently and gradually.
Tune into the body’s signals
Somatic Experiencing. We track physical sensations rather than just the story, working from the body up to reach what talk alone cannot.
Release stored survival energy
Nervous system regulation. The fight-or-flight energy trauma leaves behind gets to complete and discharge, so your body can finally settle.
Move at a pace that feels safe
Titration and pacing. We go slowly, in small steps, so healing never overwhelms you or forces you to relive the worst moments.
Reconnect body and mind
Integrated depth work. Paired with IFS and psychodynamic care, somatic work reconnects what trauma split apart.

Common questions
What is somatic therapy, and how is it different from talk therapy?
Somatic therapy is body-based. Instead of working only with thoughts and words, it helps you notice and release the physical sensations where stress and trauma are stored. It works from the body up, reaching what talk therapy alone often cannot.
Will I have to relive my trauma?
No. Somatic Experiencing is designed to be gentle. We move at your pace, in small steps, so you can process what happened without being overwhelmed or forced to re-tell every painful detail.
What does therapy cost, and do you take insurance?
Your first consultation is always free. After that, sessions are $120 with a fully licensed clinician or $60 with a clinician-in-training (couples and family are $150 or $75). We welcome FSA and HSA cards, and as an out-of-network provider we can give you documentation to seek possible reimbursement from your insurance. We do not accept Medicaid or Medicare, and financial assistance may be available, so please just ask.
Does somatic therapy work virtually?
Yes. Body-based work translates well to online sessions, and care is available both in person and virtually throughout the greater Kansas City area.
How do I know which therapist is right for me?
That is exactly what the free consultation is for. We will help match you with the therapist who best fits your needs.
