What is depth work?

An integrated psychodynamic practitioner specializing in depth work combines traditional psychodynamic principles with contemporary, evidence-based modalities to address the complexities of the human psyche. This integrative approach incorporates techniques such as Internal Family Systems (IFS), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Somatic Experiencing, Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), and others to facilitate healing.()

  • Internal Family Systems (IFS): IFS views the mind as composed of subpersonalities or “parts,” each with its own perspective and role. Research indicates that IFS is effective in treating PTSD, depression, and physical health conditions .
  • Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR): EMDR is a trauma-focused therapy that has been shown to be as effective as trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy in treating PTSD. It is recognized by the World Health Organization as a first-line treatment for PTSD .
  • Somatic Experiencing: This body-oriented approach focuses on resolving the physiological effects of trauma. Studies have demonstrated its effectiveness in reducing PTSD symptoms and enhancing overall well-being .
  • Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT): EFT is particularly effective in treating depression and trauma, fostering emotional resilience and self-compassion .

KC Counseling Group is an evidenced based practice. If you’re ever wondering why we do something ask you and we will show you the research. See content below to understand some of our modalities.

What Is EMDR?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a psychotherapy that enables people to heal from the symptoms and emotional distress that are the result of disturbing life experiences.  Repeated studies show that by using EMDR therapy people can experience the benefits of psychotherapy that once took years to make a difference. EMDR therapy shows that the mind can heal from psychological trauma much as the body recovers from physical trauma.  EMDR therapy demonstrates that a similar sequence of events occurs with mental processes.  The brain’s information processing system naturally moves toward mental health.  If the system is blocked or imbalanced by the impact of a disturbing event, the emotional wound festers and can cause intense suffering.  Once the block is removed, healing resumes.  Using the detailed protocols and procedures learned in EMDR therapy training sessions, clinicians help clients activate their natural healing processes. As a couples therapist can also be used. EMDR therapy uses bilateral stimulation to help your mind go to the places it needs to heal. If you interested in EMDR or EMDR combined with other therapies, please schedule consultation to learn more.
